As a child, I loved to read anything by Roald Dahl! I think my favourite was the BFG – it always put a smile on my face (and still does!). I loved all the made up words like ‘snozzcumber’, ‘rummytot’ and (of course) ‘whizzpopper’, and also the way that the humble, unassuming and weaker BFG becomes the hero of the story.

As an adult, I love relaxing into a comfy chair with a cup of tea and a good book (when I get the chance!) and enjoy many different types of books including sci-fi, fantasy/adventure and children’s literature. My absolute favourites are Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, How to Stop Time by Matt Haig and The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Mrs Emma Powley

Godrevy Class Teacher (Mon and Tues), SENCO

Mrs Powley is our SENCO and Autism Champion/ Global Learning Teacher; she also leads PSHE and History.

As a child, I loved reading so much that it is difficult to pick just one favourite! However, I remember rereading Swallows and Amazons many times over because I loved the freedom that the young characters had to adventure on their own, as well as the friendships that they made.
As an adult, I still love reading so much that it is difficult to pick one favourite! I particularly enjoy history though, so often choose a story that is set in the past or an information book about how people used to live. Lighting the fire on a cold night and curling up with a good book is a real treat for me.

As a child I loved reading the Secret Seven books by Enid Blyton. I enjoyed reading about the detective work that the children did in these stories. It was great reading how they solved different mysteries.
As an adult, the books I enjoy reading the most are in the Crime and Thriller genre. My favourite author is James Patterson. His books hook you straight away and keep you guessing until the end.
I also have enjoyed reading all of the Julia Donaldson books to my children as part of their bedtime stories

Teaching Assistants

Mrs Emma Mustafa

Teaching Assistant
Mrs Mustafa is also one of our lunch time supervisors.

As a child my favourite book was The Terrible Tiger. I loved this book because it rhymed and had a repeating verse. I also liked the fact that the tiger was a bit naughty! I enjoyed looking at the illustrations too.
As an adult I like to read fantasy books, such as Lord of the Rings, anything with magical creatures and a fight between good and evil. I love stories of friendship and overcoming hard times, an example of which is Call the Midwife. I also love autobiographies, I often read them about famous people that I like or am interested in.

Mrs Kerensa Ross

1:1 Teaching Assistant and Little Learners Supervisor

Mrs Ross is also one of our Lunchtime Supervisors.

As a child my favourite book was Peace at last!
I remember this book being read to me at Nursery. This still remains one of my favourite books as I shared it with both my boys and they also loved it too!
As an adult my favourite book genre is horror (scary books) because I love the feeling of being scared by the author and never quite knowing what’s coming next! It can be fun to read things that scare us.
One of my favourite things I love to do is read books with my boys at bedtime.

Mrs Vicki Ash

Teaching Assistant

As a child my favourite book was Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes. I have the best memories of reading these stories with my sister, and we even performed his adaptation of Cinderella at a girl guide camp. As an adult I now love to read non fiction books, based mainly around my passions of Forest school, my allotment and cookery.

Mrs Tracy Rands

As a child I enjoyed reading this book called Baby Animals Stories, I loved seeing all the different animals.

Office Staff

Mrs Debra Hoskins

School Administrator
Mrs Hoskins is also our staff governor.

As a child I loved ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’ by Philippa Pearce. I first saw it on TV as a mini-series and following that read the book. I loved the mystery of the clock striking 13 at midnight then everything changing and Tom going into the secret garden in the past. Also, the fact that time stood still for Tom but not for his friend Hatty and how each thought the other was the ghost. We bought our grandfather clock a few years ago and when it strikes 12 at midnight I often say “Oh, it struck 13”. My husband doesn’t really get why I find it so amusing as he doesn’t know the story.
As an adult I mainly like to read non-fiction for example ‘10 Rillington Place’, by Ludovic Kennedy, ‘Schindlers List (Ark)’ by Thomas Keneally and more recent reads of mine ‘Jungle’ by Yossi Ghinsberg and ‘The Revenant’ by Michael Punke. I am often inspired by watching the film first. I have also read many books about people who survived the concentration camps and the horrors that they endured.
